This summer, i went back to one of my favorite cities: Ghent. Over the last few years, Ghent has transformed itself into a happening place with a modern pulse. Museums, galleries, retro stores and bars are popping up, while the city also manages to stay true to it’s roots. Ghent is also exciting from a culinary point of view. Young inventive chefs, artisanal breweries, coffee bars, trendy restaurants are complimenting culinary tradition.VOLTA is the perfect example of this excitement.
Set in a wonderfully renovated industrial building, the restaurant switches between two identities: a vibrant lunch spot giving you the necessary energy boost to get you through the day, and at night, an intimate dining experience with white table linens. The food is fresh, healthy, and attractive. Everything is spiced with a bit of ‘unexpected’ … just the way I like it.
The open kitchen lets you admire a dedicated team of young chefs. Olly Ceulenaere is the culinary genius behind the super tasty dishes. He is also one of the nicest and most down to earth cooks I have ever met. For his menu he uses ingredients from local farmers and producers. The dishes are full of vegetables. The wonderful plating makes you want to take a picture of every single one of them. He loves what he does, and it shines through on your plate.
Olly is one of the chefs part of ‘The Flemish Foodies‘, a exciting initiative giving a fresh perspective on gastronomy in Belgium.
