Usually when I see a long waiting line, I make a turn and try my luck some other time. With Trattoria Mario it’s quite another story. Adding yourself to the queue of patient diners is part of the charm. It’s not only the promise of a yummy Tuscan lunch that makes you stand in line. It’s also a place where you feel welcome, not matter if you are a Florentine or a foreigner.
I am greeted by Fabio who takes care of the tiny and packed dining room. In the open kitchen, his brother Romeo and his team [most of them family] put out some of Tuscany’s most iconic dishes: ‘il minestrone di ceci’, ‘trippa alla fiorentina’, ‘braciole in salsa’ and ‘bistecche alla Fiorentina’ … just to name a few items from the daily changing menu.
Join the line of Trattoria Mario fans, smile when Fabio leads you to your table, take your seat at one of the convivial tables, ask about today’s specials and enjoy this authentic Florentine spectacle. A simple pleasure ….
