Be curious about Gelato!

Simone Bonini, owner of the two Carapina gelato stores in Florence, arrives on his vintage looking Triumph. Everything he does, he does with style. From his store design to the selection of his products. His choices reveal he is a wild child.

Simone dreamt up the concept of a gelateria inspired by gastronomy. You must be a daredevil to pair pecorino & Vin Santo, gorgonzola & strawberry, beer and walnuts in a gelato . Especially in a city that embraces tradition.

The location is a dream for a gelato photo shoot. White walls printed with food inspired poetry, colorful gelato stored in shiny containers and an energetic Simone impatient for his portrait. The secret is to work fast [before the gelato melts] and to make it look as good as it tastes.

And of course I get to experience. 18 unique flavors: freshly prepared, natural and respecting the seasons. Every new day comes with an invitation to be curious: always expect to try something new. Or to say with Simone’s words: ‘Always ask, what did you make today?’

Gelateria Carapina: Piazza Guglielmo Oberdan 2r, Florence, T: +39 055 676930 and in the center city: Via Lambertesca, 18r, T: +39 055 291128.

Ah carapina! Their pesca is just the best, I used to walk by after dinner frequently in the hope that for some reason they would be open (not open at night time!). Will miss their gelato a lot a lot when back in Aus!

These pictures remind me of a little gelateria on the Piazza di Spagna in Pienza. Used to go there every year for their gelato Fragola. But it ain’t no more…
